Walt Whitman (1819-1892) is regarded as one of America's most important nineteenth-century poets. Born in Long Island, Whitman grew up in Brooklyn and received a limited formal education. He adopted many professions in his lifetime including printer, essayist, journalist and school teacher. As early as 1850, Whitman turned his hand to poetry and in 1855 he self-published his greatest work, Leaves of Grass.

I am specifically talking about the binding of the book here, I do not mention the contents since I was not able to read much of it.I was extremely disappointed with the product. I find the cover of the book very elegant and wanted to enjoy it as much as the content itself (you can get Leaves of Grass for free on Kindle, therefore the cover is the main selling point of this version).After only two readings the red/orange on the cover started flaking off by my fingers. I find it especially bad since where else are your fingers going to go when you hold it? Since the covers are the main selling point of this version, and due to the covers being so cheaply made, it seems to me the people who were making this version did not care much about the longevity nor about the content (since it is not accessible without damaging the covers).Very disappointed and do not recommend this version, unless you do not intend to touch it without gloves.

Dies ist mein erstes Werk von Walter Whitman und ich muss sagen er gefällt mir sehr gut, das buch bzw die seiten hätten aber etwas größere seien können. Desweiteren finde ich leider "Gliding over all" von ihm nicht bei "song of myself" ich hoffe ich habe es nur übersehen und nicht, dass es gar nicht im buch vorhanden ist.

WARNUNG: Als E-book kann man dieses Buch überhaupt nicht lesen. Bitte überweisen Sie mir den Kaufpreis zurück.

Super Buch und gut zu lesen! Es ist gut zu lesen und zu verstehen. Gute Thematik und sehr zeitlos. Einfach Klasse!!

I always heard great things about Walt Whitman! And somehow this failes to live up to my expectations. A lot of words, not a lot of heartfelt connection for me.AND: The edition is really ugly! Buy a better one if you enjoy a nice-looking book.

Am Buchinhalt, habe ich nichts auszusetzen, da es wirklich ein großes Werk ist und es mir sehr gefallen hat.Allerdings bin ich sehr enttäuscht, dass das Buch so schäbig war. Auf der Rückseite war ein Sticker auf dem stand; "damage!", deshalb drei Sterne.

If someone wants to understand the American Ideology of the 21st Century, I advise to read this Book. In an highly entertaining way this Book emphasizes the idea of the Declaration of Independency.

Ein wunderbares Werk als eine Zusammenstellung der unzähligen Gedichte Walt Whitmans. Sicher nicht jedermanns Sache, aber für Kenner und sprachbegeisterte sicherlich absolut zu empfehlen. Tipp: ,,When I heard the learn'd Astronomer''.
